Jancis Robinson – 16,5b in July 2021
Full bottle 1,325 g. Now this is a bit of an oddity, described as a Beerenauslese – grapes picked late December 2013. Bottled in 2019 after 12 months in barriques, and presumably the rest of the time in tank. Lustrous deep ruby with nicely shaded colour out to the rim.
Very opulent Cabernet Sauvignon nose. No hint on the nose that the wine is going to be sweet. In fact it’s not! It’s a very respectable dry Cabernet that has aged nicely and is already a fine drink. Perhaps it could have been exposed to a little more oxygen before it was bottled, or bottled a little earlier – there’s a slightly pinched quality on the finish and the wine certainly needs food – but the fruit was clearly superb. Most unusual
