Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) lit the world on fire in 2017. It sold millions before it even left Early Access on Steam, and began the battle royale gaming craze we’re experiencing at this time. Not too much time ago this FPS juggernaut landed on mobile.
In PUBG you play as being a mercenary who parachutes, along with approximately 99 other players, onto hawaiian isle. Once they land, players scavenge for weapons, ammo, armor, and other supplies inside a last-man-standing pubg mobile freezing
death match. The game’s map starts large, but quickly shrinks as the electrical storm around the island collapses into progressively smaller circles, forcing players together because the game continues on.
It’s a simple concept with a lot of room for complexity. You land on a tropical with 99 other folks and just your fists. Find a gun and remain in the circle. Last one standing wins. Is it worth playing? That’s what we try to learn within this PUBG Mobile review.
The Mobile version of PUBG has pretty much full functionalities of their PC counterpart, with a few exceptions. The game only offers PUBG’s original map, Erangel – an abandoned, vaguely Eastern European 8km x 8km island. Everything through the PC version of this map – through the abandoned military base on the burned out nuclear power plant – makes it to the Mobile version in the game.
All the weapons, gear, and vehicles available when PUBG first exited Early Access are here too. The guns it’s added since are absent, as is the game’s second map, Miramar.
The game is completely free. You can login as the guest or with Facebook to try out. Gameplay and daily login rewards will earn your bank account experience and battle points, which can be used on crates that incorporate a random bit of clothing for the character. Unlike within the PC version, you don’t begin with any available clothing, but getting at least a couple of pants doesn’t take to much time.
The matchmaking works pretty quickly when queueing in squad, duo, or solo mode, though many from the options from your PC version are absent. Creating a private custom match doesn’t are possible at this time. There’s a menu option for making a “room,” nevertheless it appears to be for creating forums, as well as doesn’t seem to actually work yet.
I never had to hold back long to become matched with a squad, though connection issues were pretty common. Every team I played with had a minumum of one player disconnect with the outset with the game. I never ran into any connection issues when I played, but at least one teammate was unresponsive generally in most games.
The game has built-in voice chat, which works, although it feels like most players only use their phone’s speaker for a mic. If the mic is on the bottom with the phone, as is also common, it can result in some pretty annoying extra noise when players’ palms rub against it.
It’s all well and good if PUBG Mobile faithfully recreates this tropical isle’s geography and lets you utilise all the guns and drive every one of the cars in the original game, if the controls aren’t approximately the job, everything falls apart.
To be clear: the controls in PUBG Mobile aren’t of the same quality or accurate because PC version. Duh.
The game uses virtual joysticks for player movement and camera control, along with a big button using a bullet around the right will shoot your gun. It’s a bit clumsy at first, but actually feels pretty fluid after a couple of games.
It’s a little clumsy at first, but actually feels pretty fluid after a few games.
The game comes with a few different control options to make everything feel a lttle bit better and acquire rid from the awkwardness of trying to find buttons you can’t find by feel. A floating shoot button, which moves to wherever your thumb last touched, makes shooting as simple as tapping where your finger already is, as opposed to the need to reorient your hand to arrive at lots of that fires the gun. Items are automatically acquired, sorted, and equipped in game, which cuts down on some tedious menu management. The game also offers gyroscopic control options, which I’ve never enjoyed, however, many rely on.
Even with those options, the action still feels a little clumsy. That clumsiness actually impacts what kinds of tactics and gameplay work well. In the PC version, snipers may be pretty dominant. Erangel is a pretty available map, there are very long stretches of relatively even terrain dotted with hills. Finding a good vantage point to pick people off isn’t hard. The precision of your mouse and keyboard makes this that much easier.
Fights in PUBG Mobile tend to be more oriented around mid- and close-range engagements. It’s difficult to hit people really consistently far away with this game. It’s even harder when accounting for bullet drop. Automatic weapons, and also shotguns, using their wider reticles, seem especially potent here.
Vehicles often play a greater combat role too. In the PC version of PUBG, vehicles turn into a liability because map gets smaller — they’re big, loud, and difficult to miss. In PUBG Mobile, they’re actually pretty simple to miss. A fast moving target as being a jeep, especially with someone within the passenger seat using a gun, can simply ride around the perimeter from the circle and pick people off, even nearby the end of the game.
What makes PUBG quite a good-looking game on PC appears missing inside the Mobile version. The lighting and particle effects that actually sell the action’s look supply been basically stripped out, and in all likelihood for a good reason. Those sorts of elements could be pretty demanding for hardware. The result is a nice bland-looking recreation. The terrain, characters, and weapons all look approximately a similar as the PC version, just with muddier, lower-resolution textures.
The game ran pretty steady on my LG G6, nevertheless it definitely had its fair share of hiccups. I wouldn’t recommend playing on anything much older than that. I tried loading the overall game on its minimum iOS option, the iPhone 5s, plus it crashed before loading the main menu each and every time. I’d imagine Android phones of a similar age would struggle as much.
Regular gameplay ran fine most of the time. There were typically serious frame rate drops when parachuting down on the island, but that’s not totally shocking. It solved when I landed, when the action no longer had to render the full island.
The audio is actually comparatively awful. In most versions of PUBG, hearing the direction and number of noises like gunshots and footsteps is quite imperative that you learning an enemy’s location. It’s a good deal harder to inform these details in the mobile version. Footsteps were especially loud and all sounded pretty much the same in my opinion. Regardless of where we were holding, once someone was within 15 or 20 feet of me, it all sounded exactly the same. It all sounded bad too.
PUBG Mobile is fun, nonetheless it’s less tense as its PC counterpart. The stakes feel lower, plus it misses on a lot of why is the PC version of the game so special — In essence, it feels a little hollow.
PUBG has become numerous updates and improvements since it launched. PUBG Mobile has received much the same treatment having a variety of major updates towards the game, like the new Sanhok map. You can keep up with the modern updates on our official patch notes page. Also, remember that some markets can download PUBG Mobile Lite, a version with the game that could run using lower-end or older smartphones.
If you’re looking to get a new mobile shooter, you could do a whole lot worse than PUBG Mobile. The game is perhaps all there, it really works, plus it’s free. But if you need a similar strategic, nail-biting experience of the PC version, you may be somewhat disappointed.

Glitches, glitches and absolutely nothing but glitches! After a recent update I cannot pick up items, it keeps wanting to. I cannot climb in windows sometimes and my character freezes in the windows and won’t move away. Features like crouching work. I shot another character having an entire clip and absolutely nothing happened. Sometimes you have a great game then you ruin it by attempting to make it better. Leave it alone and make up a whole other game if you are the call to change things. Brutal! I may delete it!!
