Fundus Regius is the fulfilled dream of former mathematician Jan Regenda and his wife Helena. |
Building a small family-type winery in the place where he was born meant to clean the hill where he used to work in vineyards as a boy. |
It was overgrown with blackberry bushes and trees. |
New vine (34 acres) was planted there in 2004. |
The hill is in altitude of 250m and it is a unique sunny place with volcanic stones and tufa of black, reddish and brown colour. |
The vine has to fight the difficult stony conditions which makes it stronger and healthier. |
It is the most eastern vineyard in Slovakia with continental climate. |
Area is rich in berries, herbs, mushrooms and wildlife including birds of prey. |
A combination of soil, climate, tradition and utmost care both in vineyard and in cellar creates a unique product which we are proud to offer. |
Our wines are solely made from self-grown grapes with no enzymes or preservatives added. Having a high extract and mineral character they are ideal for long maturation to become archive wines. |
Grapes are born on the volcanic soil of the Vihorlat volcano on the southern slopes of the Carpathian mountains. |
Jancis Robinson tasted our red wines in 2015 and honoured them with the title “very serious”. |
